If you find your ball in the woods, it is unplayable. If a professional finds his ball in woods, not only is it playable but he can hit it onto the green.

Sam and Harry are playing one day. On the first hole, Sam hits a wicked slice into the adjoining fairway. The ball hits another player right between the eyes and he drops to the ground.
Sam and Harry rush over to the prostrate man and find him unconscious with the ball laying on the ground between his legs.
Sam screams, "Oh my God, what should I do?"
Harry replies; "Don't move him. If you leave him there he becomes an immovable obstruction and, according to the rules, you are allowed a drop two club-lengths away."
The secret to low scoring is to have a good short game, if you miss a green then it’s important that you chip the ball as close to the hole as possible to give yourself a chance of making the putt, chipping is more of a feel shot no power is required all that is needed is a good technique, good imagination and good feel.
You should hold a little lower down the grip approximately 4 centimetres this will help to increase your feel and control, the stance “feet” should be closer together and slightly open to the target, this will help you clear your hips out of the way on the downswing, however your shoulders should remain parallel to the target, your bodyweight should be approximately 70% on the left foot “ for a right handed golfer” this will help you to hit down on the ball and give you better contact, your hands should be positioned opposite your left thigh “this helps the hands stay in front of the club head when swinging” and the ball position slightly to the right of centre.
When swinging there should be very little wrist movement and the hands should remain in front of the club head at all times. The weight trans fare should be very little with the majority of it remaining on the left foot throughout the swing. There should however be a little hip rotation, one of the biggest mistakes I see is people not moving the hips at all, this will cause you to top the ball or hit behind the ball in the ground. On the downswing your hands should always remain in front of the club head and your hips and shoulders should be rotating together with your arms swinging at the same speed as one unit with a slight acceleration through impact.

You can use a variation of clubs for chipping depending on the situation, for example when you don’t have a lot of green to work with then the sand iron or a lob wedge is a good choice, the ball will fly 75% and roll 25% with these clubs, a 9 iron will fly 50% and roll 50% and with a7 iron the ball will fly 25% and roll 75%, the best advise I can give is to take these clubs on to the practise chipping green and experiment with them and after a short while you will see how the different lofts on the clubs change the flight and roll of the ball.
